As the summer sun is shining brightly each day, people are changing into their swimming suits, shorts and all other summer gears. And with all that, they are switching their shoes for flip flops. Now flip flops may seem like the perfect symbol of summer; it is open, lets you feel the breeze and easy to wear. However, flip flops are not actually good for your health. In fact, one should never ever wear them at all. Listed below are 10 reasons as to why.
10.Due to its open nature, flip flops make your feet more vulnerable to bacteria, germs and other diseases. Your feet are in constant touch or near touching distance to the ground and hence they are more prone to getting infected. If you happen to have a cut or wound then that area is even more likely to get infected.
9.Wearing flip flops literally slow you down. Your shoes are now hanging by a simple thread and you cannot comfortably run in them. And even if you do try to run wearing flip flops, you will end up tripping down and hurting yourself. That might end up ruining your summer.
8.Since your flip flops are hanging on to your feet by a single thread, you need to take slower and shorter steps. This might end up ruining your normal walking rhythm thereby making you clumsier. Besides, it is uncomfortable anyway since you need to readjust every once in a while.
7.Harmful for the heels
Wearing flip flops expose your heels to a certain amount of force every time you hit the ground. Since there is no layer of protection, excepting for a thin layer of foam, your heels are being affected on a regular basis. This becomes a serious problem if you tend to walk around or stand in those flip flops for a longer period of time.
6.Blisters
If you think about it, a wearing a flip flop means that there is only one strap holding on to your feet real tight. And that can end up causing blisters at the end of the day. Every time you move your feet, your skin is rubbed against that strap thereby causing more pain and more blisters. If that blister opens up, then you have another wound to take care of.
5.Permanent Toe Damage
When wearing a flip flop, your toe needs to work extra hard to keep the shoe on your foot. This results in hammertoe, which is bending of your toes. As a result, your toes end up being stiff over time and can cause multiple injuries.
4. Posture is ruined
When you wear a flat like a flip flop, they mess up your body posture. These flats don’t bend like the way your leg does when you walk barefoot. As a result, the biomechanics of your body is affected and posture is harmed.
3. Shoot pains
People who have joints or knee problems will have a difficult time wearing flip flops. This is because the affected joints need arch support to keep the knees, hip and back aligned, which is not provided by the flats. As a result, your joints need to compensate for the support and over working these joints can cause long term pains and problems.
2. Overworking the bunions
Flip flops are hard to hold on to especially when you are moving fast. As a result, your toes are doing twice as much work holding on the shoes. These can lead to exasperating the bunions, a bump at the big toe joint.
1. Made of toxic materials
Now these shoes are made of plastic and the straps are made of latex. Many people are allergic to latex while the plastic may contain BPA, a toxin related to cancer. In short, you are wearing toxic materials on your feet and that may end up causing you a problem.
